I believe a workshop consists of an exploration of a particular technique for treating materials. Producing a piece of artwork, creating a sculpture, or installing an installation can either boost production or enhance aesthetics. I have worked with various materials, including clay, bamboo, wood, printmaking, hand-weaving, metal, and others. Through material explorations and learning how to communicate my design beliefs, I have learned how to communicate my ideas. Materials exploration can be a permanent feature of the learning space so that learners can play with materials. In different lessons or investigative units, materials can be adapted to highlight certain areas of interest. An exploration room may include tools or fasteners that help to explore specific materials.
